HI, I’M DAVID.
I’ve spent more than 20 years solving complicated problems, building things and making them work.
Most of my professional career has been in global mobility, relocation, international operations and complex projects.
I’ve worked with some of the world’s biggest organisations, helping them move people across borders, build international services, improve struggling operations and deliver projects involving lots of countries, stakeholders, suppliers and moving parts.
These days I bring that experience directly to businesses that need practical senior support without another layer of bureaucracy.
HOW I GOT HERE.
My career has taken me through relocation, global mobility, operational leadership, service delivery, transformation and project management.
I’ve worked across EMEA, the Americas and APAC, led teams and operations across the UK, USA and India, helped build a shared-services operation in Bangalore and supported the opening of a Middle East office in Dubai.
I’ve built international supplier networks, worked on global operating models, supported major offshore transformation programmes and led complex office and employee-relocation projects.
I’ve also worked on service recovery and quality improvement, including contributing to a significant improvement against an aged revenue position of approximately $13 million.
I led relocation strategy work connected with the London 2012 Olympic Games, including operational readiness, supplier coordination, client communication and industry engagement. That work received a Re:locate Award for Best Policy / Strategy.
IT’S FIGURING THINGS OUT.
The common thread isn’t really relocation.
It’s understanding what the actual problem is, turning something complicated into a plan, getting the right people around the table and then seeing it through.
That is the part of the job I’ve always enjoyed most.
CREATIVE WORK. REAL DELIVERY.
Alongside my corporate career, I’ve spent more than a decade building a second one as an award-winning writer, director and Artistic Director.
I founded Proforça Theatre Company in 2015 and, as Artistic Director, I’m responsible for much more than what happens in a rehearsal room. I develop new work from the first idea through to performance, set the creative direction, choose collaborators, cast actors, lead rehearsals, manage productions and make the decisions that hold the whole thing together.
It means working with writers, actors, designers, technicians, venues, producers and other specialists, often with limited time and money and an immovable deadline. You have to be clear about what you are trying to achieve, create the conditions for talented people to do their best work and know when a decision simply has to be made.
Writing and directing have sharpened another set of skills too: listening closely, spotting what isn’t working, giving useful feedback, understanding people and turning a complicated collection of ideas into something coherent.
That is probably why the two sides of my career have never felt as separate to me as they might look from the outside. Both are about taking responsibility for an idea, a problem or a project and getting it all the way to something real.
EXPERIENCE IN PRACTICE.
The projects have been varied, but they all have one thing in common: something complicated needed to happen and somebody needed to take responsibility for getting it done.
